My story
Hi! My name is Yumna, but most people know me as Yumi.
I am 26 years old. I was born in Durban, South Africa and moved to Cape Town when I was 5 and then a few years later-l moved to New York. I have lived between Cape Town and the States for most of my life and I schooled at an American international school here in Cape Town which explains my accent.
I decided to start vlogging and doing motivational speaking because I have always had a passion for helping people. I get so much satisfaction knowing that I have a made a difference in someone’s life and even just made them believe in themselves a little bit more- no matter how small or big the improvement is. Just being able to impact someone's life with a pinch of salt makes me so happy and to see them smile and their life change because of my impact :)
I make videos and posts about many different inspirational things about life from how to become successful, being unapologetically you, women empowerment, pursuing whatever you want no matter how crazy your dream might be or that people might say “You’re dreaming too big” along with many other things. One of my dreams would be to talk on the TED stage one day.
It is still crazy to believe that I’m making these vlogs with myself in it because for most of my life growing up- I was extremely shy and a lot of people don’t believe me when I say this. I was so shy that I couldn’t even pay for my own food. I would usually give my money to my sister to pay for my food in the food court in the mall because I didn’t want to speak to anyone. All I would do is stay in my comfort zone and play video games (I absolutely love video games).
It got to the point in my late teens where I decided that something had to change in order for me to grow. So I decided to take a debating class. I was SOO NERVOUS, but I just did it anyway. I was bad in the beginning but after a few years- I was eventually picked as one of the top 12 members of my debate class to represent our school in England. And I ended up winning an award called “Highly commendable delegate” and my oh my was I SHOCKED!
I am so glad that my confidence is so much better these days and I hope to do the same for you. Encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and make your confidence level reach BOSS LEVEL!
And if you got to the end of reading my story- I appreciate it so much and taking the time out of your day to do so :)
Be BOLD! Inspire without boundaries.
